Vaughan Roofing & Sheet Metal was established in 1945 by Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Vaughan, Sr., as a matter of necessity. Mr. Vaughan contributed to the World War II war effort by assembling Catalina Patrol Bombers at the Consolidated Aircraft factory on the New Orleans Lakefront. Exultation at winning The War was short lived, however. Soon airplane production stopped and everyone received their pink slips.
Mr. & Mrs. R.S. Vaughan, Sr. Founders VAUGHAN ROOFING & SHEET METAL
Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan began providing roofing services in the New Orleans area as a way to keep their young family fed. R. S. Vaughan, Jr., was just five (5) years old at this point when a move was planned 60 miles west to Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge provided the perfect environment for the growth of Vaughan Roofing & Sheet Metal with its many commercial and industrial facilities along the Mississippi River. In 1962 after finishing his tour of duty with the United States Marine Corps, R. S. “Sonny” Vaughan returned to Baton Rouge to assist his father in running the family business. With Sonny’s attention to quality and customer service, Vaughan Roofing & Sheet Metal continued to grow. Laverne Vaughan, Sonny’s wife and assistant, balanced her work duties with raising their three children, Sharye, Kevin and Michael. After purchasing the company from R. S. Vaughan, Sr., Sonny Vaughan continued his focus on quality and customer satisfaction while being an innovator in jobsite safety. Substandard work and safety practices were never tolerated and were a constant focal point when teaching his children their responsibilities upon joining the company’s work force. Kevin and Michael Vaughan started by sweeping the floors and eventually moved up gradually to learn hands on all aspects of how Vaughan Roofing & Sheet Metal operates. Upon their graduation from L.S.U., both began full time careers for an unusual third generation of family involvement. In 2005 Vaughan Roofing & Sheet Metal was purchased by Kevin and Michael Vaughan who still base their every decision on the fundamentals of quality, customer service and safety. |
